Ohio State has cruised through every team in its past to this point. The Buckeyes are 9-0 and the College Football Playoff committee moved them down from No. 1 to No. 2 this past week only because LSU beat No. 3 Alabama.

Understandable decision, but again, that’s the only reason why. It’s not like Ohio State hurt itself this past week when it defeated Maryland 73-14.

The Buckeyes got news that star defensive end Chase Young would miss one more game due to the loan he took — and paid back — which means that he will be out for the Rutgers game this Saturday.

Young will be back for Penn State two weeks from now and Michigan the week after.

Ahead of the game against the Scarlet Knights, Ohio State released its status report. No Buckeyes are listed as game-time decisions.

However, 14 players will be unavailable:

  • DE Chase Young
  • DE Jonathon Cooper
  • WR Kamryn Babb
  • WR Ellijah Gardiner
  • WR C.J. Saunders
  • WR Austin Mack
  • LB Baron Browning
  • RB Marcus Crowley
  • DT Noah Donald
  • DT Taron Vincent
  • OT Joshua Alabi
  • OG Matthew Jones
  • OL Brett Novick
  • S Ronnie Hickman

On the surface, 14 seems like a ton. In the end, though, there are not a ton of surprises to the names above. Ohio State — like practically every team — is never at 100 percent during any given week.

The Buckeyes and Scarlet Knights are scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. ET kickoff on Saturday at SHI Stadium in Piscataway. The game will be televised on BTN.
