Ryan Day comments on iconic headset throw in closing moments of national title game
Ryan Day went on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on Monday night and talked about Ohio State’s National Championship victory.
More specifically, Day was asked about the moment where he famously chucked his headset behind him at the end of the game right before receiving a Gatorade bath from Ohio State players.
Day described what was going through his head in that moment:
“When you’re at the end of the game, you’re so close, you want to see it end,” Day said. “And then, all of a sudden when you realize you’ve won, it’s like ‘get this headset off of me’ … I’m lucky it didn’t hit somebody in the crowd because there’s weight on that, too.
“And then I turn around and I had forgot about the Gatorade bath. You’re not thinking about any of those things … It was a great feeling.”
Fallon also asked Day about the moment where his golf cart crashed into a wall while carrying him, Will Howard and Cody Simon to the postgame press conference. Here’s a clip from the show:

This was Ohio State’s first National Championship since the 2014 season.
