Ryan Day confirms key Ohio State defender will miss Cotton Bowl
Ryan Day and Ohio State made the trek to Texas Saturday, arriving in town to finalize preparations for the Cotton Bowl vs. Missouri. Unfortunately for the Buckeyes, they will be without a veteran member of their defense.
During the arrival press conference, Day was asked about the status of Lathan Ransom who has missed the final stretch of the season. Prior to The Game vs. Michigan, Day sounded optimistic that Ransom might be able to return for the postseason, but that did not come to fruition.
The head coach confirmed Saturday evening that Ransom will indeed be out for the matchup. He also confirmed the absence is injury-related and is not due to an opt-out.
Lathan Ransom is out per Ryan Day. There is a team meeting tonight. No updates on any possible opt-outs.

Ransom is in his fourth season with the program and has been a key piece the last three seasons. He was injured in the win over Wisconsin but missed the entire month of November with his setback.
This season, Ransom produced 34 total tackles, 2 pass breakups and a forced fumble from his safety spot. He has been a key veteran in Jim Knowles’ defense, and his absence will be a tough blow for Ohio State come kickoff against the Tigers.
