Ryan Day’s Ohio State Buckeyes picked up their biggest win of the young college football season in thrilling fashion on Saturday. Day is getting some national recognition for the victory.

Day has been named the Dodd Trophy’s Coach of the Week for Week 4.

“Coach Day had his team prepared to fight to the very last second and pull out a huge road victory against a top-10 opponent,” Jim Terry, chairman of the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Foundation, said in a release. “Coach Dodd would have admired the Buckeyes resiliency, coming from behind late in the fourth and winning the game on a last-second touchdown.”

The award also recognizes Day and his wife’s philanthropy and OSU’s Academic Progress Rate of 993 and Graduation Success Rate of 86.

“Coach Day continues to make tremendous progress within his football program, not only prioritizing success on the gridiron, but also in the classroom and in the community,” Gary Stokan, CEO and president of the Peach Bowl said in the award’s release. “With his leadership to coach his student-athletes into becoming great young men after their time at Ohio State, coach Day epitomizes what this award truly stands for and is truly deserving of this honor after his impressive win over the weekend.”

The Notre Dame game was Ohio State’s first of 3 against teams in the current AP Top 25. Day’s squad entered the 2023 season with expectations to return to the College Football Playoff, but some had soured on the Buckeyes in the early weeks of the season.

OSU moved up 2 spots in the AP Top 25 to No. 4 after defeating the Irish. The Buckeyes are now ahead of Michigan as the most likely B1G team to make the CFP according to ESPN’s experts.

Day’s team is on a bye in Week 5. Ohio State hosts Maryland in Week 6.
