Ryan Day reflects fondly on Chip Kelly's lone season at Ohio State
Ryan Day and Chip Kelly are both New Hampshire natives, and Kelly coached Day at the University of New Hampshire when the former was the offensive coordinator there and Day was a quarterback.
That time in New Hampshire was a quarter-century ago, and the 2 were reunited in 2024 at Ohio State, where magic happened.
This time, Day was the boss, as the head coach at Ohio State and Kelly was the offensive coordinator, and all the 2 did together was combine to win a national championship. Now, with Kelly leaving the Buckeyes after just 1 season to return to the NFL as the offensive coordinator for the Las Vegas Raiders, Day reflected on their time together in Columbus during Monday’s appearance on The Joel Klatt Show podcast.
Day was immediately asked by Klatt about his brief time with Kelly at Ohio State, and said:
“We talked about it, the fact we had a really good group here. The dream would be to win a national championship, and then he decides if he has another chance to go to the NFL, and it’s exactly what happened,” said Day. “To be able to have a beer in a few years and talk about the year we had together is going to be special because we also started together. … What a great story. I know so many people back in New Hampshire are just excited for him and for the story. It’s pretty special.”
