Urban Meyer has left the coaching profession before.

He did it at Florida. He said he was done. But then he went to Ohio State and won a bunch of football games — just like he did with the Gators. But then, he left Columbus.

He called it a “dream job.” But, he called it quits. Is this it? Is he just going to be a FOX CFB analyst for the next 20 years and ride off into the sunset?

Some believe that’s not the case. Some believe he will be back as a head coach on the sidelines sooner rather than later.

Doug Lesmerises of cleveland.com spoke with Meyer recently. And on Thursday, he posted an article about some of the topics the two discussed. One was about a potential return to coaching:

“I’m not there at the moment,” Meyer said of a possible return. “Like you said, next year can I say that? We’ll talk again next year and we’ll see.”

We’ll see, eh Meyer? That doesn’t sound like the door is completely shut.

In fact, it sounds as though the door to a potential return to the sidelines is wide open.

We know that Meyer is competitive. And we know that he likes to win. Can that burning desire to win, coach and make an impact on other people’s lives bring him back to coaching?

“I worry about that. I worry about that,” Meyer said. “That only thing that still gets me a little bit is, ‘Am I making an impact?’ That’s what I miss more than anything. I miss winning and I miss that. That’s the only thing I think about once in a while.”

Again, it sounds as though the thought of a possible return is there. It may be more than just a “want” for Meyer.

It almost sounds like more of a “need.”
