Penn State is currently the hottest school in the country on the recruiting trail.

The Nittany Lions picked up a verbal from 4-star DL Dani Dennis-Sutton on Thursday afternoon, giving them nine commitments in the month of July.

Penn State has the nation’s No. 2 overall recruiting class in the country for 2022, according to 247Sports Composite rankings. The Nittany Lions only trail Ohio State in that regard.

247Sports recruiting analyst Brian Dohn said he believes Penn State is benefitting from the return of official visits. Prospects were unable to take visits to campuses due to the pandemic from March of 2020 until June 1, 2021.

“They’ve had a massive July when it comes to commitments,” Dohn said after Dennis-Sutton’s commitment on Thursday. “I’ve said often in talking to people that perhaps the school impacted most by the pandemic and kids not being able to visit campus for 15 months was Penn State. Because when kids get on campus there, there’s something magical. The coaches do an incredible job. Not just James Franklin, he does a great job, but his whole staff does.

“The community that they have there, the way Penn State is supported, it makes kids feel special. ”

Penn State had an uncharacteristically down recruiting class in 2021. James Franklin’s class ranked just No. 21 nationally and No. 6 in the Big Ten, per 247Sports Composite rankings.
