Urban Meyer is out of the picture, so there’s plenty of debate about which current B1G head coach is the best in the conference. Bruce Feldman has no trouble making his pick.

In a recent interview with BTN’s Take Ten podcast, Feldman touched on a bevy of B1G topics, including which coach he thought was the league’s best. His answer? James Franklin.

Over the last three seasons, Penn State has won 29 games and collected a conference title in 2016. He certainly belongs in the conversation, though Scott Frost, Jim Harbaugh, Mark Dantonio, Pat Fitzgerald, Kirk Ferentz and Paul Chryst would probably all be in the conversation, too.

With Franklin still on the sideline, Feldman expects Penn State to enjoy a big year.

“Penn State is the one that, if you ask me who’s the best coach in the conference right now, I’m going to say James Franklin,” Feldman said. “He’s still in charge, and I think he’s got a lot of athletes there. I don’t want to call it a bounce back because they finished 17th, but I think they have a chance to be a top 10 team.”

The Nittany Lions do have a loaded roster, but it’s still pretty young and inexperienced. With key players like Trace McSorley and Miles Sanders gone, the offense may struggle to find a rhythm early in the year.

But Franklin has found a way to push for double-digit win totals in two of the last three years. Who says Penn State can’t do it again in 2019?
