James Franklin was thrilled with his team’s performance in the moments following Penn State’s 31-14 win over Boise State on Tuesday night at the Fiesta Bowl.

The win means the Nittany Lions will be headed to the Orange Bowl to take on either Notre Dame or Georgia on Jan. 9. The victory also marks the third win for Franklin against a top-10 team during his tenure at Penn State.

“I remember back in training camp talking to these guys and saying, “I want moments like this’ for them,” Franklin said from the podium. “This is what it’s all about. It’s about the players. They’ve earned this. It’s a mature football team that’s handled things the right way all year long. So I’m just happy for our guys.”

Franklin was particularly pleased with how his team defended Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty, who he referred to as one of the best running backs in college football history. Jeanty rushed for 96 yards on 24 carries — exactly 4 yards per attempt.

Offensively, Penn State turned in a dominant performance on the ground. Kaytron Allen and Nick Singleton both rushed for over 7 yards per attempt, with the latter icing the game with a 58-yard touchdown late in the 4th quarter.

Penn State will now advance to the Orange Bowl to await the winner of Wednesday’s Sugar Bowl matchup between Georgia and Notre Dame.
