James Franklin reacts to Landon Tengwall announcing medical retirement
James Franklin recently reacted to one of his starters medically retiring from the sport of football.
Landon Tengwall, projected to start on the offensive line, put out a lengthy statement announcing his decision. Tengwall started 5 games for the Nittany Lions in 2022 and appeared in 3 games as a true freshman in 2021.
“I had a really good meeting with Landon and his dad earlier in the week,” Franklin declared. “I’m not going to get into the specifics of it. But, I think you’ll be seeing Landon around here pretty soon.”

Franklin stressed the importance of respecting Tengwall’s decision and being there for him during this time.
“I think you’ll see him, whether it’s coaching, or recruiting, or strength and conditioning. At the end of the day, he’s part of our family,” stated Franklin.
Tengwall’s position coach also put out a statement about the announcement.
It’s been a privilege to coach this young man, who’s done everything we’ve asked and done it the right way. I couldn’t be prouder. Heartbroken for Landon and his wonderful family, but he’s destined for great things. The entire Penn State family is here for you always. #WeAre 💙🤍 https://t.co/k7SPmCRQMQ
