Penn State started the year with a tough conference road trip, but the Nittany Lions found a way to escape with the win in Week 1.

Heading to Madison to take on Wisconsin, the schedule provided both programs with a top-20 matchup out of the gate. The action fit the bill with a back-and-forth defensive effort keeping it tight the entire way.

In fact, the game was held scoreless in the first half, producing something that hasn’t happened in almost 50 years. Fortunately, the second half produced different results.

The Nittany Lions scored 16 points as quarterback Sean Clifford led the team on 2 touchdown drives. That included a big-time 49-yard score to Jahan Dotson as Penn State hung on for the 16-10 win.

It is definitely a game for the program to build on this season with an early B1G win in hand. After the victory, former Penn State star Micah Parsons was amped up.

Now the Nittany Lions will move on to face Ball State next weekend.
