Penn State offensive lineman Nick Dawkins was serious earlier in the week, and he’s following James Franklin’s urge to fans to set the energy for Saturday night at White Out levels.

After the win over Kent State, Franklin teased fans by discussing a “White Out” against Illinois only to follow that up by describing a need for “white out energy.” Penn State followed that up with a video Monday morning, calling on fans to set the environment but refraining from labeling the game itself as a 2nd White Out. (The original White Out for the season is already set for later in the year vs. Washington.)

Dawkins himself urged fans to “wear white” on social media Monday, and he was asked about that post while meeting with the media Wednesday afternoon. He began by saying it was mainly about telling fans to bring the “White Out energy” and “that passion that you bring for a White Out.”

However, he followed that up with a direct “suggestion” to fans to look around their closet for some white attire:

“Maybe just take a peek in the closet, take a peek in the dresser that you barely open up. You got something white, just put it on for the game and show some support,” said Dawkins. “That’s all. Just a recommendation, just a suggestion.”

It’s unclear why Penn State is playing things so coy for the top 25 matchup vs. Illinois, but it’s clear the Nittany Lions want a White Out, even if it cannot be formally labeled as the White Out for the season. We’ll see if the fans deliver on those pleas.
