A number of analysts in college football believe the Heisman Trophy is nearly decided, but Matt Leinart sees one QB that is going to have a big opportunity to close the distance.

During a recent segment for FOX College Football, Leinart discussed the race for the Heisman and gave his rankings. It comes as no surprise that LSU QB Joe Burrow was at the top.

However, at No. 2 on Leinart’s list was Fields. According to Leinart, Fields is the one player with a real shot to make a push for the Heisman this late in the season. He pointed to some big games coming up for the Buckeyes:

“There’s one name that I think has a real opportunity to close the gap with Joe Burrow down the stretch, and that’s Ohio State QB Justin Fields,” said Leinart. “He’s silently and quietly having one of the better seasons we’ve seen from QBs…

“The difference between he and Joe Burrow is Burrow’s had those opportunities, he’s had the national spotlight games when he’s performed at his best. Justin Fields has that for the next three games…He has three massive games to close that gap (in the Heisman race).”
