Braden Smith captures first-team All-America honors from Sporting News
Braden Smith is officially a first-team All-American, joining a recent and growing list of Purdue players to earn first-team honors.
On Wednesday, Sporting News dropped their full 2024-25 All-America Team with Smith joining an elite list of college stars. Duke phenom Cooper Flagg and Auburn big man Johni Broome were unanimous first-team players while Florida’s Walter Clayton and Alabama point guard Mark Sears joined the list.
Smith earned first-team honors while averaging 16.3 points and 4.7 rebounds while leading the Big Ten with 8.8 assists. He added the B1G Player of the Year Award on Tuesday as the first major conference player to average 15 points, 8 assists and 4 rebounds per game since 2002-03.
With Smith receiving the honor, he gives the Boilermakers a first-team All-American for 4 years in a row under Matt Painter. Jaden Ivey (2022) and Zach Edey (2023 and 2024) preceded Smith’s honor in 2025.

Braden Smith has already compiled one of the best careers in Purdue’s all-time history. Smith needs just 21 more assists in the postseason to set the single-season assist record for the Boilermakers, a record he already set a season ago with 292. Smith is already Purdue’s all-time leader in assists with 717 and he is 3rd on the all-time steals list with 177.
While Purdue was led by some star performances this season, the Boilermakers finished with the 6th overall seed in the Big Ten Tournament after tie-breakers were accounted for. It snaps Purdue’s streak of back-to-back regular-season titles, and we’ll see if Smith can lead the team to a deep run in Indianapolis this week.
