Brian Brohm, Purdue’s interim head coach, announced the starting quarterback for the Citrus Bowl against LSU Thursday.

Brohm said that Austin Burton will be taking the starting quarterback role in the Citrus Bowl on Jan. 2 following Aidan O’Connell’s decision to opt out.

Burton has received one start for the Boilermakers in his 3 years at the school. However, he played his first 3 collegiate seasons at UCLA.

The 6th-year senior has still managed to draw some solid stats. Despite not being on the field much this season, Burton was able to throw for 199 yards along with 3 passing touchdowns.

Purdue’s football staff has been all over the place with former head coach Jeff Brohm leaving for Louisville, roughly a week ago. Although Brian Brohm will still be on the sidelines for Purdue as its interim head coach in the Citrus Bowl, he won’t be present next season as he is following his brother to Louisville.

Drew Brees will also be on the sidelines, serving as an assistant interim coach for Purdue in its bowl game.
