Despite offensive firepower, Jeff Brohm most pleased with defense in fall camp
This could be a great sign for Purdue heading into 2019.
The Boilermakers finished 6-7 last season and made a bowl after an up-and-down season under head coach Jeff Brohm. Purdue’s highlight of the season was definitely a 49-20 upset of then-No. 2 Ohio State, but the team also knocked off Boston College and Iowa.
The stars of the year were definitely David Blough, Rondale Moore, and an electric offense. Defensively, the Boilermakers left a lot to be desired, allowing 30 points per game for the year.
The offense is likely to remain the star this season, but that is not who Brohm highlighted on his BTN Bus Tour appearance. He said he is most pleased with the defense so far:
“The defense,” explained Brohm. “We are much further ahead than we have been in the past.”

Brohm also took time to discuss Purdue’s schedule which begins August 30 at Nevada. He pointed out Purdue doesn’t struggle to get up for big games, but the team needs to remember to stay focused for all games:
“Every year, we play at least 11 Power 5 teams,” Brohm pointed out, “Which is unusual which is fine. We know we’ve got good competition and our first game of the year is at Nevada who won a bowl game…sometimes our guys really get up for big games, we’ve got to get up for EVERY game.”
