Bad news leaked out of West Lafayette on Saturday, as multiple reports confirmed that Purdue running back Tario Fuller suffered an injury during the team’s morning scrimmage.

It was an injury Jeff Brohm described as significant. As Fuller undergoes further examination, it’s unknown the exact severity of the injury, but it sounds like it could keep him sidelined for quite some time.

Following the news of the injury, Boilermaker fans reached out to the running back, sending thoughts and well wishes his direction for a speedy recovery. Fuller has battled injuries throughout his career at Purdue, and everyone was hoping to see him healthy and back on the field this fall.

Sunday morning, Fuller thanked fans for all the support they’ve been showing via social media.

“I appreciate everyone’s prayers and concerns,” Fuller wrote. “It really means the world to me.”

Fuller has been competing for the starting job at running back for the Boilermakers during fall camp. Though he’s been bitten by the injury bug throughout his career, he’s shown the explosiveness and vision to be a consistent back in the offense.

In three seasons at Purdue, Fuller has rushed for 325 yards and two touchdowns. Most of that production actually came in one game in 2017, when he torched Ohio’s defense for 142 yards and a score on 16 carries in a 44-21 victory.

With Fuller potentially out, Zander Horvath may be the primary ball carrier for the Boilers this season.

Purdue opens the 2019 season against Nevada on Friday, Aug. 30.
