The Boilermakers are coming off of their first loss of the season at the hands of in-state rival No.12 Notre Dame 27-13 last Saturday.

Star WR David Bell was injured in the game against the Fighting Irish. Head coach Jeff Brohm provided an update on Bell Monday morning.

It appears that Bell is in concussion protocol, and it is to be determined if he will be able to play in the B1G home opener against rival Illinois. He left last week’s game against Notre Dame on a cart after suffering a hard hit.

This season, Bell has 21 catches for 319 yards averaging 15.2 yards per reception and 3 touchdowns.

In two seasons and 3 games with the Boilermakers, Bell has 160 receptions for 1,979 yards for 12.4 yards per reception and 18 touchdowns. He also has 1 rushing touchdown.

Purdue is 2-1 to start the year as they wrapped non-conference play last Saturday in the loss to the Irish. They have wins over Oregon State and UConn.

The Boilermakers play 4 AP Top-25 teams in B1G play this season.

Purdue hosts Illinois who  is 1-3 on the year but 1-0 in the B1G West division with a win over the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

Purdue hosts rival Illinois in the Battle for the Cannon at 3:30 ET on BTN.
