Three days ago, Gavin Wimsatt played a high school football game for Owensboro High School in Kentucky.

This week, he can practice for Rutgers and Greg Schiano. If you needed further proof that college football is changing by the minute, you got it.

Wimsatt, a 4-star recruit, announced his decision to reclassify to the Class of 2021 and enroll at Rutgers. Even though the Scarlet Knights got their season started this weekend, NCAA rules allow Wimsatt to start practicing now that he’s enrolled. He reportedly is also gearing up to sign an endorsement deal as part of the new name, image and likeness rules.

“He and his family got into town last night,’’ Schiano said in his weekly press conference, according to NJ.com. “He’s going through all the on-boarding right now, as far as physicals (and) he’s (enrolled) for school so he’ll start classes tomorrow.’’

Wimsatt is the second B1G commit to reclassify to the Class of 2021 in hopes of signing an NIL deal. 5-star Quinn Ewers was the first to do so for Ohio State and signed a seven-figure autograph deal last week.

While Wimsatt can practice this week once he’s moved in, Schiano said he won’t rush anything.

“Just in general this is a young man who played in a high school game three nights ago. So taking it really slow,’’ Schiano said, via NJ.com. “People forget just because (he’s) a great player he’s still a young person who’s going away from home for the first time. He has to move into a dorm and do all that good stuff. So we’ll give him a chance to get his feet on the ground before we worry too much about practice or that stuff. I’m sure he’ll want to. That’s what football players like to do, get out there and play football. So we’ll get to that as soon as we can.’’

One thing’s for sure, though. The CFB landscape is changing right before our eyes.
