The Michigan Gaming Control Board reported the state’s August sports betting handle increased slightly after July’s figure, the lowest in Michigan’s sports betting history.

The Michigan Gaming Control Board reported $208.6 million in total sports betting handle in August, with Michigan online sports betting accounting for $192.3 million of the total. The total sports betting handle increased by just 1.2% over July.

September should see a marked increase in sports betting handle as the NFL kicked off earlier in the month.

Michigan sports betting handle slightly up in August

The online sports betting operators paid the state $540,705 in taxes in August, coupled with $216,699 to the City of Detroit, a decrease from July’s total.

The state received $62,371 from Detroit casinos in total state wagering tax from in-person bets. The City of Detroit received $76,231.

DraftKings, which is partnered with the Bay Mills Indian Community, broke a seven month string of FanDuel Michigan recording the highest state sports betting total. DraftKings reported $61.3 for the month. DraftKings paid the state $181.677 in taxes for the month.

FanDuel, which is partnered with the MotorCity Casino, recorded the second highest handle of $47.6 million, and paid the state $191,292 in taxes.

BetMGM, which is partnered with MGM Grand Detroit, wasn’t too far behind FanDuel, reporting $43.6 million in total handle and paying $116,058 to the state in taxes.

Barstool Sportsbook, which is partnered with Greektown Casino, again reported declining online sports betting handle and state tax payments for August. Barstool reported a $13.1 million handle and paid the state $30,630 in taxes.

August’s Michigan sports betting handles

Here are the rest of the online sportsbook results for August:

  • William Hill, which has partnered with the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians, reported an August online handle of $10.2 million but did not make a state tax payment.
  • FoxBet Michigan, which has partnered with the Little Traverse Bay Band of Odawa Indians, reported $2.5 million in handle for August and paid Michigan $21,046.
  • Wynn Bet, which has partnered with the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians, reported $883,495 million in August and did not make an online sports betting tax payment to the state.
  • BetRivers, which has partnered with the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians, reported $3.1 million in August and did not make an online sports betting tax payment to the state.
  • PointsBet Michigan, which has partnered with Lac Vieux Desert Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians, reported $6.1 million in online sports betting handle for August. It has yet to make any online sports betting tax payments to the state.
  • Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians, which operates online under its Four Winds Casino brand, reported $483,991 in online handle. It has yet to make any online sports betting tax payments to the state.
  • Hannahville Indian Community, which operates online through its partnership with Churchill Downs Inc., reported $1 million in handle for August. It has not yet made a tax payment to Michigan.
  • Keweenaw Bay Indian Community, which operates online through its partnership with Golden Nugget, reported $668,502 in total handle. It did not make a tax payment this month.
  • Nottawaseppi Huron Band of Pottawatomi Indians, which operators through its FireKeepers Casino, reported a $1.1 million handle for August. It did not make a tax payment to the state.
