Michigan's July sports betting handle lowest since January
Michigan slid into July with its lowest total sports betting handle since online sports betting began in January.
The Michigan Gaming Control Board reported $206.2 million in total sports betting handle in July, with Michigan online sports betting accounting for $187.9 million of the total. The total sports betting handle declined nearly 20% from the June total of $259.5 million.
Michigan online sports betting handle, taxes down
The online sports betting operators paid the state $762,219 in taxes in July, coupled with $377,223 to the City of Detroit.
The clear-cut leader for the month for online operators is FanDuel Michigan, which is partnered with the MotorCity Casino. For the seventh month in a row the operator reported the highest sports handle total, $54.5 million, and paid the state a whopping $338,347 in taxes.
DraftKings Michigan continued its strong run as of late, totaling $53.4 million in handle for July, It made its second ever tax payment to the state of $157,599 for July.
Bet MGM Michigan, which is partnered with the MGM Grand Detroit, notched the third highest sports betting handle in July, recording $41.01 million in online sports betting handle, and paid the state $179,122 in taxes for the month.
Barstool Sportsbook, which is partnered with Greektown Casino, declined slightly in July in handle and state sports betting tax payment. It reported a July online handle of $13.6 million and paid the state $70,878 in taxes.
July’s Michigan sports betting totals
Here are the rest of the online sportsbook results for July:
- William Hill, which has partnered with the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians, reported a July online handle of $7.5 million but did not make a state tax payment.
- FoxBet Michigan, which has partnered with the Little Traverse Bay Band of Odawa Indians, reported $2.7 million in handle for July and paid Michigan $12,599.
- Wynn Bet, which has partnered with the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians, reported $2.3 million in July and did not make an online sports betting tax payment to the state.
- BetRivers, which has partnered with the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians, reported $2.6 million in July and did not make an online sports betting tax payment to the state.
- PointsBet Michigan, which has partnered with Lac Vieux Desert Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians, reported $7.8 million in online sports betting handle for July. It has yet to make any online sports betting tax payments to the state.
- Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians, which operates online under its Four Winds Casino brand, reported $318,987 in online handle. It has yet to make any online sports betting tax payments to the state.
- Hannahville Indian Community, which operates online through its partnership with Churchill Downs Inc., reported $1.04 million in handle for July. It has not yet made a tax payment to Michigan.
- Keweenaw Bay Indian Community, which operates online through its partnership with Golden Nugget, reported $623,976 in total handle. It paid Michigan $3,672 in taxes for the month.
- Nottawaseppi Huron Band of Pottawatomi Indians, which operators through its FireKeepers Casino, reported a $367,353 handle for July. It did not make a tax payment to the state.
