USC adds former Washington QB Sam Huard via transfer portal
USC finished the 2024 regular season with a 6-6 record. The team ended the season positively, however, by defeating Texas A&M in the Las Vegas Bowl and grabbing its seventh win.
On Monday, the Trojans added a quarterback via the transfer portal. The QB position is an interesting one to watch at USC after former starter Miller Moss transferred to Louisville. Now, the team has added former Washington QB Sam Huard to the mix.
The QB confirmed the news by sharing a post on his Instagram story.
Huard will join his uncle, Luke Huard, who is the QB coach for the Trojans.
The QB spent the 2024 season at Utah and did not see any action. In 2023, Huard started in 9 games for Cal Poly at the FCS level. During that season, Huard threw for 2,247 yards with 18 TDs and 10 INTs.
Before Utah and Cal Poly, Huard began his college career at Washington. Huard played in 5 games for the Huskies, 4 in 2021 and 1 in 2022. The QB ended his time with the team having thrown for 265 yards with 1 TD and 4 INTs.
Earlier this offseason, after the departure of Moss, Lincoln Riley revealed that he was “very excited” about having Jayden Maiava and Husan Longstreet competing for the QB1 spot. The coach indicated that they would seek to add a depth option via the portal, and it seems that’s exactly what Huard is being brought in for.
Maiava played in 7 games for the Trojans in 2024 and threw for 1201 yards with 11 TDs and 6 INTs.
