The race for the starting quarterback job at Florida State for a Week 1 matchup against Boise State has been determined.

Former Wisconsin quarterback Alex Hornibrook and James Blackman were competing for the starting job through fall camp, but head coach Willie Taggart has made a decision. Blackman will take the first snaps for the Seminoles on Aug. 31.

Hornibrook transferred to Florida State following three seasons at Wisconsin. His departure was sudden and it was surprising to see the former B1G starter pick a rebuilding program to finish his career. And now, he’ll have to claw his way into the starting job if he wants to see the field later in the season.

Last fall, Hornibrook appeared in nine games, battling through a head injury and concussion-like symptoms during the final portion of the schedule. He finished the year with 1,532 yards and 13 touchdowns while completing 59.5 percent of his passes.

Florida State struggled heavily on the offensive side of the ball last year, so Hornibrook could still work his way into the rotation. It’ll be interesting to see if and when Hornibrook gets a chance to take some snaps for the Noles.
