Chez Mellusi was involved in a scary scene Friday night and was carted off the field during Wisconsin’s game against Purdue. His prognosis has since been updated, and the star running back did suffer a serious injury per reports.

Saturday evening, ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg reported that Mellusi suffered a fractured fibula in the game. As a result, Mellus is expected to miss the rest of the season.

At the time of his injury, Mellusi had 307 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns as a part of Wisconsin’s backfield with Braelon Allen.

That is a major blow to Mellusi personally and to the Badgers as a team. After beginning his career at Clemson, Mellusi was in his third season at Wisconsin.

Unfortunately, Mellusi has not finished a full season without the injury bug cropping up, and he now is dealing with his latest setback. Hopefully, his rehab goes smoothly and he’s able to get back to playing quickly.

As for Wisconsin, the injury doubles the load for star running back Braelon Allen after he’s rushed for 371 yards through the first 4 games. Carries were split evenly between to the two backs to start the season, but Allen will need to play a more feature role moving forward. Look for QB Tanner Mordecai to also be a factor in the run game without Mellusi available.
