Paul Chryst discusses the 'art form' of balancing Jonathan Taylor's workload
With a back as strong and talented as Wisconsin’s Jonathan Taylor, it can be hard to know when to pull back on his workload.
Taylor is undoubtedly one of the best running backs in the country and has already rushed for 4,171 yards over the first two years of his career. Unfortunately, that comes with a high workload. Taylor has averaged more than 300 carries a season in one of the toughest conferences in the country.

Having a workhorse as capable as Taylor is an awesome plus for the Badgers. However, adjusting his workload to help keep him fresh and healthy can prove tricky. Head coach Paul Chryst recently discussed the issue during fall camp, and he admitted it is more art form than science:
“That’s maybe the art form,” explained Chryst. “I don’t know. We know the kid, we know Jonathan and what a guy needs to get done…There’s a lot of things about his game that he can still clean up and get better at.”
The Badgers are coming off a season where they fell below double-digit wins for the first time since 2013. In order to get back above that mark, Taylor will need to play a big role once again. Hopefully, the Badgers find a good balance on offense to compliment his work on the ground.
