Paul Chryst on Badgers' backup QB situation: 'They'll both be ready'
Wisconsin has known who its starter will be since the weekend. Jack Coan will be the guy for the Badgers as they take on USF in Week 1.
Graham Mertz and Chase Wolf will be reserves. But is there a possibility we could see one (or both) of the backups when Wisconsin travels to Tampa on Friday night? Paul Chryst still isn’t revealing too much.
“They’ll both be ready,” Chryst said when asked the question, according to Jeff Potrykus to Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.
#Badgers Paul Chryst was asked today about his QBs, specifically whether Wolf or Mertz would get the call if something happened to starter Jack Coan. His answer: "They'll both be ready."

Coan and Mertz were both battling for the starting job through fall camp, with Coan taking the job in late August. There’s some speculation that Mertz could see the field against USF as well, but Chryst isn’t revealing any additional secrets.
We’ll see if the Badgers stick with one quarterback against the Bulls, or if they throw Mertz or Wolf in at some point in the contest.
