There’s an awful lot of transfer portal activity in Champaign this week.
Jeremy Werner of Illini Inquirer is reporting that two more members of the football team have entered their names into the database, with defensive linemen Anthony Shipton and Tre’von Riggins both exploring their options. The two new entries comes in addition to offensive lineman Brevyn Jones and running back/wide receiver Kyron Cumby hitting the portal.
Shipton, a junior defensive lineman, spent just one season with the Fighting Illini. He came to Champaign from junior college and was a 3-star prospect in the 2020 class. He did not play in any games for Illinois last season.
Riggins was a member of the 2020 recruiting class and was a 3-star prospect out of high school. He played in one game for the Fighting Illini in 2020. He is the latest member of the team to hit the transfer portal.
In addition to the four players (so far) who have entered the transfer portal this week, Werner also reported that offensive linemen Kevin Tyler and Phifer Griffin left the program following the conclusion of spring practice.
Neither player has entered the portal at this time.
