Minnesota’s Derik LeCaptain switched to the running back position for the first time in his career on Saturday and it wouldn’t shock anyone if he got another crack at it.

LeCaptain scored a rushing touchdown after truck sticking some Northwestern defenders before getting into the endzone. It was a thoroughly incredible run with a spin move and broken tackles:

LeCaptain switched to the running back position due to how short the Golden Gophers are at the running back position. They’re already without Mo Ibrahim and Trey Potts for the rest of the season, and Bryce Williams was also injured against Northwestern.

Prior to the 2021 season, LeCaptain was awarded his scholarship. He initially joined the program as a walk-on. Now, he may see more action down the stretch as a backup running back.
