Penn State trailed 10-7 to Pittsburgh with just a few seconds remaining in the first half.

The Nittany Lions faced a fourth-and-16 situation on the Pittsburgh 39-yard-line. A field goal attempt would be a school-record long 57-yard try.

What did Penn State do?

Elect to trot out kicker Jordan Stout and go for the record. The result?

Stout delivered:

Stout made the game a 10-10 tie going into halftime. Oddly enough, Stout isn’t the only Big Ten kicker to nail a 57-yarder today. Illinois’ James McCourt hit one from 57 yards out as well against Eastern Michigan.

The longest kick in college football history is actually 67 yards. It has happened four times and the latest occurred in 1988 by Tom Odle for Fort Hays State.
