Illinois star guard Ayo Dosunmu saw his name misspelled on the back of his jersey on Thursday night in the Illini’s game at Northwestern.

It may not be a good look when a place of higher learning doesn’t know how to spell the name of one of their own players. Especially when the error comes on the highly-visible back of the jersey.

And it is a star player’s jersey, no less.

With the win, Illinois is now 9-3 on the season and 5-1 in the Big Ten.

Dosunmu is maybe not the easiest of names to spell in college basketball but he is the Illini’s star player. He is on the Wooden Award Watch list as well as for the Naismith Award. His is a name that probably should be well known around the program, right?

Of course, this is some teasing. Mistakes happen and given the amount of gear and jerseys these players go through, plus the extra cleaning and sanitation needed during COVID-19, the staff in charge of these matters is likely stretched thin.

The important thing for Illinois from Thursday night’s game against Northwestern is that the team spelled W-I-N the right way. Perhaps Dosunmu needs to wear the misspelled jersey until the team loses again.
