Tom Allen and his staff just had another major victory on the recruiting trail.

Wednesday afternoon, the Hoosiers landed a verbal commitment from 4-star, in-state wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. The Indianapolis native is listed as the No. 5 player from the state, per 247Sports Composite.

Cooper becomes the 10th player in the 2022 recruiting class to commit to IU. He is the third-highest-ranked prospect currently to pledge to the Hoosiers, behind 4-star athlete Dasan McCullough (No. 50) and 4-star cornerback Trevell Mullen (No. 180). Cooper ranks as the No. 214 player of the class.

There were 18 programs that extended an offer to Cooper. He committed to Indiana over West Virginia, Cincinnati, Arkansas, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan State, Purdue, Virginia Tech and Wisconsin.

Cooper is listed as a 6-foot-1, 185-pound wide receiver who has been incredibly explosive at Lawrence North High School. Last season, he recorded 1,101 yards and 14 touchdowns on 38 receptions, posting an incredible 28.9 yards per catch average.

In 2019, Cooper caught 53 passes for 1,024 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Cooper took a visit to Indiana last month and also visited West Virginia. This week, the in-state receiver opted to stay close to home to continue his college football career.
