Maryland traveled to Temple to take on the Owls on Saturday looking for a revenge win after losing last season’s matchup 35-14. The thought was that the Terps’ outstanding start this season could help prove that this year’s game would be different.

So far, it’s been ugly against the Owls. Going into halftime, Temple led 7-2.

Part of the reason why was Maryland trying to pull some tricks out of the bag. The Terps faced a 4th-and-3 on the Temple 16-yard-line early in the second quarter. One would think that an easier field goal attempt would be wise.

However, Maryland thought that faking it would be smarter. Which, OK. That’s fine if you actually succeed with the fake.

But look at this:

This is certainly not succeeding. The kicker faked the attempt by going through his kicking motion and the holder proceeded to take the ball and run to the outside.

However, that was it. He immediately got smashed by two Owls defenders.

That’s probably not how Maryland thought this play would turn out.
