Florida fans outraged, demand apology from Brian Griese after Feleipe Franks comment
Brian Griese is feeling some pressure from Florida fans this weekend.
On Saturday, Florida quarterback Feleipe Franks suffered a gruesome injury during the team’s game against Kentucky. Though it hasn’t been officially confirmed by medical staff yet, all signs point to the Gators gunslinger being out for the rest of the year.
After Franks suffered the injury, Griese, who works for ESPN, made some unflattering and incorrect comments about the quarterback. He said that Franks has had some off-the-field issues during his time in Gainesville, a statement that is inaccurate.
Franks has been criticized for his showmanship during games, particularly in Florida’s win over Miami in Week 0. While that turned Franks into a bit of a college football heel, it certainly wasn’t an off-the-field.
Florida fans were quick to point out Griese’s mistake and are now demanding he apologize:
Here you go @briangriese @espn @KirkHerbstreit You owe the kid an apology Mr. Griese. Saying that the kid has been a problem off the field which is a total lie and to say that while he is on the ground crying in agony. It's a really bad look for you guys. https://t.co/P0uoZfVgXq

Pretty wild @briangriese and @espn said Feleipe Franks had off the field issues
In his nearly 4 years at UF, he’s never been suspended or arrested
In this era, we are ok creating a poor image for a kid who’s been nothing but a competitor?

Hey @briangriese, I’m looking forward to your answer. https://t.co/u0Nt4YzcqH

What did @uf ever do to @briangriese? To reference off the field issues of Franks (none exist) and to give the Gators no cred for rallying after losing their starting QB just seems like he has an an anti UF agenda.

C’mon @espn, you can’t let your announcers like @briangriese just spout off misinformation about college kids. It is irresponsible and he should apologize. https://t.co/8066sLOxdM

There’s no room for your animosity and hate in commentary. Your off field issues shouldn’t bleed over to your job. #NoHeismanForBob

You are a hack and need to apologize to Felipe Franks

Absolute tasteless! You should apologize to that young man and his family! He is a great kid and slandering him on television right after a season ending injury is not a good look for you @briangriese
