Ben Johnson and Minnesota picked up another commitment for the 2021 class, this time with a guard out of the JUCO ranks.

On Friday, sharpshooting guard Abdoulaye Thiam out of Indian River State College announced his commitment to the Gophers. He is listed as a 6-foot-3 combo guard out of Orlando, Florida.

In 24 games this past season, Thiam averaged 15 points per game and 3.7 rebounds while shooting 56.1% from the floor. Even more impressive, Thiam shot a blistering 48.5% from three-point range.

Hopefully Thiam brings that ability to space the floor to the Gophers and provides a scoring punch for Johnson and company.

Thiam’s commitment gives Johnson two additions to end the week. On Thursday, Minnesota picked up a commitment from Stephen F. Austin transfer Charlie Daniels. Daniels is a 6-foot-9 forward who appeared in 50 games over two seasons at SFA.

It will be interesting to see what other moves Johnson makes as Minnesota rounds out the roster for the 2021-22 season.
