Nebraska and Arizona State’s head coaching jobs have opened up within the last 2 weeks and ESPN college football analyst Greg McElroy talked about which one is the better job.

Most recently, Arizona State fired head coach Herm Edwards after 5 seasons at the school. The Sun Devils were 1-2 to begin the season and decided to part ways with Edwards following Saturday’s loss to Eastern Michigan.

Edwards finished his tenure at Arizona State with a 26-20 record. Edwards joined Scott Frost as a coach fired in September. This was the latest high profile head coaching vacancy in college football.

On “Always College Football,” McElroy discussed the better job between Nebraska and Arizona State:

“To me, there’s no excuse for why (Arizona State) shouldn’t be good in every single sport, but I do want to compare it to the Nebraska situation. Which is the better job?” McElroy said. “Everything initially would kind of lead me to believe Arizona State is the better job. Why? Access to talent, simple as that… You look at the amount of 4- and 5-star players coming out of schools in Arizona or states that border Arizona, you’re going to have a lot more quality players in that radius than you are a 5-hour radius from Nebraska.”

Though McElroy gave the edge to Arizona State for the school’s proximity to some of the best talent in the country in any sport, he cited recent changes for swinging the better job back in Nebraska’s favor. NIL could be a factor in how schools are able to recruit players:

“That’s what I would say. However, things have changed, I think. NIL has changed things drastically. We know Nebraska is going to be insanely supportive of NIL. We also know the B1G has their new media rights deal… Right now, I actually think Nebraska is a better job but is not something I would have said the past few years.”

Nebraska and Arizona State will have difficult decisions to make over the next few months. Expect recognizable names to be in the mix for both programs.
