Wisconsin receiver will stand trial for two alleged sexual assault charges

Wisconsin junior wide receiver Quintez Cephus will stand trail for two sexual assault charges alleged against him, despite the fact that  his attorneys had filed a motion to dismiss a second-degree sexual assault charge.

Per Badgers beat writer Jeff Potrykus, Cephus’ arraignment will be on October 11th. He’ll be in a court room hearing the charges filed against him just days before his Wisconsin teammates will be playing the Michigan Wolverines in Ann Arbor.

Cephus was suspended by Wisconsin in late August, though he preferred to look at it as a “leave of absence”.

According to the criminal complaint filed against him, Cephus allegedly sexually assaulted two “heavily intoxicated” women after meeting at a local bar this past spring. Wisconsin wideout Danny Davis III was also alleged involved in the incident as he apparently took at least one photograph of the encounter, and for his part he did serve a two-game suspension. Davis III has rejoined the team.

It seems like the end of this saga is far from near for Cephus, though it’s worth noting that he has maintained his innocence. Here’s what he said, per the AP, after he was ordered to stand trail.

“I know the truth, they know the truth,” Cephus said, standing in front of about a dozen supporters. “I look forward to clearing my name and fighting for who I am.”

Cephus was expected to be one of the Badgers top receivers this season after a 2017 season that saw him catch 30 passes for 501 yards and six touchdowns in just nine games.

It now seems more and more unlikely that he’ll see the field this season.
