Northwestern has received some bad news during the Early Signing Period. While the Wildcats are still working on an outstanding 2020 class, they’ve missed out on some big names on Wednesday.

First, talented three-star wide receiver Abdur-Rahmaan Yaseen flipped his commitment from Northwestern to Purdue, not only leaving the Wildcats but joining a B1G West foe. Then, later that morning, three-star dual-threat quarterback Michael Wright committed to Vanderbilt over Northwestern.

Wright had been strongly considering UCF, Vanderbilt and Northwestern, according to 247Sports.

Per his recruiting page on 247Sports, Wright is ranked as the No. 26 dual-threat quarterback in the 2020 class. The Atlanta native was also listed as one of the top 100 prospects from the state of Georgia in this cycle.

Northwestern’s poor offensive showing in 2018 and change at offensive coordinator probably didn’t help its cause in the pursuit of Wright.

Wright received offers from 28 programs from FBS, FCS and Division II programs. Along with UCF, Northwestern and Vanderbilt, he also received interest from Arkansas, Illinois, Minnesota, Cincinnati, Boston College, Kentucky and Utah, among others.

Pat Fitzgerald is working on putting together a top 35 class in 2020, but the loss of Yaseen and Wright certainly don’t help the cause.
