Northwestern beat out one of the top dogs in the B1G East for a big-bodied offensive lineman with a lot of potential.

On Monday night, three-star offensive lineman Ben Wrather announced via Twitter that he was committing to Northwestern, choosing the Wildcats over offers from more than two dozen schools. He became the eighth recruit to commit to Northwestern in the 2020 class.

“I am excited to announce that I have committed to Northwestern University,” Wrather wrote in a message on Twitter. “I am blessed to receive the opportunity to play football and continue my education.”

Wrather makes his announcement just two weeks after taking a visit to Evanston and receiving an offer from the program. In addition to Northwestern, he held offers from Penn State, Purdue, Indiana, Cincinnati and Kentucky, among others.

According to 247Sports, Wrather ranks as the No. 94 offensive tackle in the 2020 class. A native of Powell, Ohio, he also is listed as a top 50 player out of his home state.

Wrather is the second offensive lineman to commit to the Wildcats this season. At 6-foo-6, 285 pounds, he’ll add good size and depth to front line of Northwestern’s roster.

Northwestern currently has the 18th ranked recruiting class of 2020 and sits at fourth in the B1G. The Wildcats were winners of the West Division last season.
