Syracuse coach after Kyle McCord's first game: 'I should send Ryan Day a bottle of champagne'
Syracuse coach Fran Brown is very thankful to have Kyle McCord on his roster in 2024.
The Orange got off to a great start on Saturday, beating Ohio 38-22. McCord was brilliant, throwing for 354 yards and 4 touchdowns in the win.
After the game, Brown talked about how grateful he is to have the former Ohio State QB on his side. He went as far as to say he owes Buckeyes coach Ryan Day a gift.
“Kyle’s a good football player, you’ve seen it right there,” Brown said in his postgame press conference. “I should send Ryan Day a bottle of champagne for allowing us to get him. It’s pretty cool.”

McCord was Ohio State’s starting quarterback last season, but entered the transfer portal in the offseason after the Buckeyes fell short of expectations in 2023. Ohio State ended up replacing McCord with Will Howard, who threw for 3 touchdowns of his own against Akron on Saturday.
After McCord entered the portal, Day told reporters that he was “very well-respected” at Ohio State. He also wished McCord well at his next stop.
