A contract extension might be just around the corner for James Franklin.

Sports Illustrated’s Bruce Feldman reported on Tuesday that Penn State’s compensation committee will meet on Friday to discuss the possibility of extending Franklin’s contract.

The Lions’ head coach is entering his fourth season in Happy Valley.

Franklin led Penn State to its first outright B1G title since 1994 as the Nittany Lions finished the year with an 11-3 record and a trip to the Rose Bowl.

Under Franklin, Penn State is 25-15 and really struggled in his first two years. The Lions posted a 7-6 mark in 2014 and 2015, finishing sixth and fourth in the B1G East, respectively. The 2016 season was the first time Penn State finished the season ranked in the Franklin era.

Many believe last season was a turning point for the Nittany Lions, which is reestablishing its presence as a B1G power. In addition to claiming a conference title, Franklin is working on a top-five recruiting class for 2018, according to rankings from 247Sports.
