Sure, there are a couple of post-Thanksgiving turkeys on the Big Ten slate this Rivalry Week. It’s hard to get excited about a couple of 3-8 teams getting together, unless you’re the type to get worked up over an Old Oaken Bucket.

But there are 2 league teams chasing a 10th win this weekend, and 3 others seeking a bowl-clinching 6th victory.

Plus, winter is going to hit early for at least 3 league teams and possibly as many as 6 after this weekend. Might as well stuff yourself on the leftovers while they’re available.

A look at this week’s B1G matches, kicking off with a couple of Friday contests:

No. 17 Iowa (9-2) at Nebraska (5-6), noon ET Friday (CBS)

Hawkeyes: Lowest-scoring 10-win team since …

We promise to do the research if West champ Iowa wins as, get this, a 2.5-point underdog against turnover machine Nebraska. The Hawkeyes have scored 203 points, 18.5 per game (123rd FBS), under lame duck OC Brian Ferentz. DC Phil Parker gets the chance to bolster his candidacy for the Broyles Award. He’s 1 of 15 semifinalists for the 75-pound trophy that goes to the best assistant coach in the land. An Iowa win also puts a little extra shine of next Saturday’s B1G title game in Indianapolis.

Huskers: Is Chubba taking everyone bowling?

We think Chubba Purdy will start again at quarterback after getting the nod last week. The Huskers have also started Jeff Sims and Heinrich Haarberg this season, but both ruined sometimes overwise solid play with turnovers. Nebraska has coughed up the ball an FBS-worst 28 times. Purdy might claim the job, as well as get the Huskers to their first bowl game since 2016, with a clean game. It would say something positive if he can do it against Iowa’s defense.

No. 11 Penn State (9-2) at Michigan State (4-7), 7:30 Friday (NBC)

Lions: Seeking an offensive direction

The first offensive snap for Penn State will reveal if Drew Allar is healthy enough to go for Penn State after being injured last weekend. Plenty of fans are curious to see what dual-threat backup Beau Pribula can do with an extended run. The former 3-star recruit led the team in rushing against Rutgers while playing most of the second half. With the recent in-season firing of OC Mike Yurcich, the future for Allar — the much celebrated 6-5, 240-pound 5-star talent — might be in doubt.

Spartans: It’s cool to play at Ford Field?

There won’t be any chance of snow, a fun feature of some past Land Grant Trophy matchups. The game is being played at the home of the NFL’s Detroit Lions, which is a dome.  As for motivation for the worst-scoring team in the B1G (17.4 ppg, 128th) … some players might want to impress their currently unknown future coach.

No. 2 Ohio State (11-0) at No. 3 Michigan (11-0), noon Saturday (FOX)

Buckeyes: Is Kyle McCord ready for this?

The junior McCord barely beat out Devin Brown for the starting QB job in August. He performed in the clutch on the road at Notre Dame, but now he’s going against the best defense in the land.

Wolverines: Is Sherrone Moore ready for this?

The acting head coach in place of suspended Jim Harbaugh has gone extremely conservative and run-heavy in his 3 previous games at the helm this season. Will he be bold and trust JJ McCarthy to sling the ball if it’s needed?

Indiana (3-8) at Purdue (3-8), noon Saturday (BTN)

Hoosiers: Can Brendan Sorsby close strong?

Indiana’s redshirt freshman quarterback has looked quite good despite the team’s struggles. He can provide some hope looking ahead to 2024 with a strong finish to this season.

Boilers: Ryan Walters playing his Card right?

Purdue’s first-year head coach expects QB Hudson Card back from injury to close the season. A Bucket victory would provide some momentum for both heading into Card’s redshirt senior season.

Maryland (6-5) at Rutgers (6-5), 3:30 Saturday (BTN)

Terps: Taulia Tagovailoa posting numbers

Maryland’s 4th-year starting quarterback needs just 5 passing yards to hit 11,000 for his career. Already the program’s all-time leader in multiple passing stats, he can climb B1G lists.

Scarlet Knights: Chasing the Turtles

The teams won’t be division mates after this season, but Maryland is a B1G team Rutgers has a shot at surpassing. Greg Schiano’s group will seek to snap a 2-game losing streak in the series and close to 8-11 all-time vs. the Terps. The defense will have to step up: RU lost this matchup 37-0 and 40-16 the past 2 seasons.

Northwestern (6-5) and Illinois (5-6), 3:30 Saturday, BTN

Wildcats: Keep it rolling for David Braun

The former FCS assistant succeeded so well as the plug-and-play interim leader that he now has the job full time. Another win means a nicer bowl destination and further distance from the hazing scandal that cost longtime coach Pat Fitzgerald his job.

Illini: Let John Paddock enjoy his swan song

Subbing for injured Luke Altmyer, the backup QB led an 85-yard final drive and threw for 507 yards the next week as Illinois gained on bowl eligibility before losing to Iowa last week. Paddock is out of eligibility after this season, so he’s got 1 or 2 games left. Bret Bielema has said he’s sticking with Paddock, and that’s the right call.

Wisconsin (6-5) at Minnesota (5-6), 3:30 Saturday (FS1)

Badgers: Can Tanner Mordecai finish strong?

The SMU transfer returned from injury and beat Nebraska in OT last week, but his season as gone nothing like his previous 2 with the Mustangs. Maybe Phil Longo can find the game plan to send him out in style in his final college season.

Gophers: Do they have anything left?

Minnesota is beat up on both sides of the ball. PJ Fleck will need all of his motivational skills, but a bowl berth and Paul Bunyan’s Axe are at stake. So he’s got some ammo.
