Kirk Herbstreit offered insight into whether Ryan Day has a Michigan problem, and what he can do to fix it.

The ESPN analyst and former Ohio State quarterback joined Pardon My Take on Wednesday and gave his thoughts on Day’s problems as Ohio State’s coach.

While Herbstreit does believe Day might have a Michigan problem, he doesn’t think it’s time for him to be fired.

“I think two things can be true here,” Herbstreit said. “I think number one, I personally wouldn’t even consider talking about firing Ryan Day. Number two, he definitely has a Michigan problem. Both of those things can be true. This game is cyclical, the pressure, the way teams get in the other team’s head. Ohio State lived in Michigan’s head with Tressel and Urban Meyer. Jim Harbaugh, to his credit, at one point they were ready to fire him, and now he’s completely turned this thing around.”

Herbstreit believes there is an answer to beating Michigan, and it starts with how Day recruits his players.

“The recruiting that they have done from the end of the Urban Meyer era till now, they recruit nationally…” Herbstreit said. “If you look at the Ohio roster there’s not a ton of Ohio guys and I would suggest maybe looking at that aspect of the roster and finding more Ohio guys that qualify to be on the Ohio State roster to make them appreciate what this game really means.”
