Ryan Day cannot escape the Lou Holtz spat.

Since it was confirmed that Ohio State would face Notre Dame for the College Football Playoff National Championship, jokes about the back-and-forth between Day and Holtz during the 2023 season have been incessant.

And when Day sat down with Pat McAfee for a segment that aired Monday night during ESPN’s College GameDay, he was met with another reminder.

Right before the end of the segment, a producer on McAfee’s show crashed the set dressed as Holtz and asked Day to meet him in a back alley.

“You guys are out of your minds,” Day said as McAfee burst out laughing. “Where do you come up with this stuff? You guys just stay up late at night to come up with this stuff?”

The tiff dates back to the 2023 season when Holtz questioned the toughness of Day’s Ohio State team before a regular-season matchup with Notre Dame in South Bend. “Everybody beats them because they’re more physical than Ohio State,” Holtz said.

After Ohio State beat Notre Dame on a game-winning touchdown run in the closing seconds, Day fired back at Holtz.

“I’d like to know where Lout Holtz is right now,” Day said. “What he said about our team I cannot believe.”

Holtz doubled down on the beef last week when he tweeted that the only reason Notre Dame might lose to Ohio State would be to keep Day from being fired. Day also revealed he hasn’t spoken to Holtz since their public spat.

Well, he can check that off his to-do list now. Sort of.
