Rutgers suffered its first loss of the 2021 college football season with a 20-13 road loss to No. 19 Michigan.

Unfortunately, the Scarlet Knights suffered an even bigger loss on the Wednesday before the game as offensive lineman Reggie Sutton suffered a significant injury in practice. Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano confirmed on Monday that Sutton would miss the entire season.

“Well, Reggie’s going to need surgery and he’s going to be done for the year — which is sad, because he really is a fine player and it’s sad any time a kid has to do that,” said Schiano according to 247 Sports. “But he’s a strong guy mentally and he’s going to fight through it. And we’ve got the best care for him, so we just hope that he can heal up and get back with us.”

Sutton was one of the most experienced and consistent players on the Scarlet Knights offense. He was an honorable All-B1G mention this past season for Rutgers after starting all 9 games. Sutton was also named 2019 and 2020 Academic All-B1G.

Redshirt junior and former Temple Owls transfer Davis Nwaogwugwu is set to make the start at right guard for the injured Sutton. Rutgers is set to host No. 11 Ohio State this upcoming Saturday.
