Greg Schiano’s push to keep in-state talent close to home is underway. And he was able to land one of the top 20 players from the state of New Jersey this week.

On Tuesday, three-star athlete and New Jersey native Chris Long announced via Twitter that he would be committing to Rutgers. He becomes the 10th player to commit to the program in the 2020 class.

“I just want to thank God because without him none of this would even be possible,” Long wrote. “For the next 3-4 years I will be taking my talents to Rutgers University. Represent my state.”

Long is listed as a 6-foot, 160-pound athlete from Willingboro, New Jersey. He’s ranked as the No. 20 in-state player from the 2020 recruiting cycle. He’s also listed as one of the top 50 athletes in the class.

Long had 17 offers, and was receiving interest from Temple, Boston College, Baylor and Duke, along with Rutgers. But he chose to remain in-state and become one of the first commits since Schiano’s return to Piscataway.

The Scarlet Knights are still well behind in recruiting, having just 10 players committed in the 2020 class. Rutgers ranks last in the B1G and 93rd nationally in the rankings, according to 247Sports.
